Active Reading

Hi, In this blog, I am going to talk about how digital media companies found that there is a big lacking in helping other users to understand the online environment. From reading this article ‘Digital Media Companies Found Lacking in Helping Users Understand the Online Environment’. According to Kirk (20202), a digital news report highlights that 62% of people surveyed had ongoing worries over miscommunication and misinformation online.  I found the above statement to be the most interesting statement for me because I feel that even though surveys state that 62% of people that were surveyed had ongoing worries that all stem from miscommunication and misinformation online, many people are very reliant on the online environment and believe that what they see is true. For example, many teenagers are very involved in social media and with the lives of influencers and they believe that how the influencers have portrayed themselves online is how everyone’s lives should be or how ev...

Digital Media

Hi, In this blog, I am going to discuss my thoughts on the ideas that were mentioned in each of the videos I have watched. Firstly, I am going to talk about my thoughts on the very first video ‘Digital Media Are Networked’.          I fully agree with the ideas that were mentioned yes Media today has greatly improved and has many benefits such as being able to connect with others with similar interests from everywhere, being able to receive news quicker rather than waiting to read the newspaper the next day, etc. and it also helps people with work/education to access information for study/work, etc.  Although there are many advantages to it there are also some disadvantages, for example, people may use it for school/work but one of the main implications people face while doing this is that not all sources are reliable sources and could cause you to believe/rely on incorrect information. I will now express my thoughts on video number two ‘Digital Lite...

Reading

Hi, In this blog, I will discuss my experience when reading the first two readings and I will also discuss the valuable information that I have found throughout the readings.  While reading the very first text ‘Critical reading techniques’ I found that it was very informative and very helpful to many school-going and/or college-going students. It was very understandable and gave many tips, this will allow people to use the trial and error system to find which technique would suit them and be more beneficial to them in the future. Each of the eight techniques that were discussed was well explained and very easy to understand this alone would benefit many people. Some of these techniques many people may have already known such as: •Using an efficient approach e.g. reading and note-taking strategies, Highlighting, etc. •Reading thoroughly e.g. Taking notes and adding margin comments, Trying to grab a better understanding of the text you’re trying to read. •Re-reading for assignm...

Study Skills

Hi, In today’s blog, I will discuss how the ideas mentioned in the videos compare to my previous experiences of reading and studying, my previous experiences with the concept of media literacy and I will also touch on some applications that I think of for media literacy that weren’t mentioned or discussed in the video. To start I will talk about my own previous experiences with reading and studying, coming straight from secondary school I have had a lot of practice of both. Throughout the years of secondary school a lot of reading and studying is a vital part of learning due to both state exams, the Junior Certificate and the Leaving Certificate this is a different type of reading and studying as you’re only required to remember answers and information for a particular subject. Whereas in college you’re reading and studying to grasp a better knowledge and understanding of a particular module. For many students including myself that have been or are still attending second-level educatio...
