Post Production.

Hi  This week for our project task we are required to write a blog post on the progress of our group projects.  In my opinion, although it has been moving quite slowly, the work that has been done is going well and we are trying our best to make our topic understood well and up to a good standard. We hope to speed up our work process as we need to stay on track and get this project video completed and uploaded on time. Each member in my group is still finalizing our scripts and editing them to make the most sense and also in the hope that others will be able to make sense of these scripts. We have realized that we need to get a move on and start recording so we can get the videos edited correctly and also so if we need to make changes or add things in that we have the time to facilitate these changes so that we are ready to upload our video on time and to the best standard possible. I have been working on my script and trying to make sure that I have enough content withi...

Media Representation

Hi In this week's video task we were required to watch different videos about media representation and why it is important. We were also required to write a blog post on our opinions on some of the ideas that were discussed in these videos. The first video I watched was ‘Why Representation Matters’ which in my opinion is a very good question because I feel not many people like myself would know why exactly media representation matters. From this video, I gathered that the reason that media representation matters is because it is a way that allows people to see themselves and also because there are many cultures and people that need to be represented. At the beginning of this video, Samson Binutu also states ‘I think it's important that people feel like they can watch content that they resonate with.’ which I tend to agree with him on. I also agreed with what Jasmine C. Leyva said when she stated that ‘When you start creating worlds where entire races don't exist, people wi...

Media Compression

Hi In this week's video task we were asked to watch five videos, each explaining what exactly media compression is in a bit more detail. When finished we were then required to discuss our thoughts and ideas on these videos, Below I will discuss my thoughts and ideas on the topic of media compression. Before I began watching these videos I had no clue what media compression was so from watching these videos I have learned a lot and grasped a better understanding of what it is. What is media compression? From my understanding of media compression now, it is the reduction of a file size that also saves disk space. This type of compression is very specific to files such as Image files, Video files, and Audio files. Media that naturally tends to be large in file size, such as videos, are more likely to be highly compressed, especially if they are optimised for streaming online.  The first video that I watched was ‘Video Compression as fast as possible’ This video was very easy to ...

Another Revision

Hi, This week we were given feedback from our peers and using the given feedback we were asked to re-write our original pieces but to apply the feedback to our work so that hopefully our work will improve and we can learn from our mistakes for future assignments. Overall this week the feedback that I received from three people was very positive and had very little improvement to do for this week's task. I enjoyed hearing what I had done that was good in my blogs and I feel it also keeps me motivated to continue to write because I know that although there are things that I could improve on I also know that there are strong parts in my blog. My positive feedback included things such as: Good Grammar and Punctuation. That the blog was based on my opinions and backed up with facts. It was easy to follow due to the structure and layout. Good flow to the blog due to going from one topic to the next. Was straight to the point. I was very happy with this feedback and will do my best to m...

Rewrite #2.

Hi, This week as part of our assignment we had to read an article and give our opinions and understandings on the topic of that particular article , below I will discuss my opinions and understandings on the topic of the online environment.  From reading this article ‘Digital Media Companies Found Lacking in Helping Users Understand the Online Environment’. According to Kirk (20202), a digital news report highlights that 62% of people surveyed had ongoing worries over miscommunication and misinformation online.  I found the above statement to be the most interesting statement for me because I feel that even though surveys state that 62% of people that were surveyed had ongoing worries that all stem from miscommunication and misinformation online, many people are very reliant on the online environment and believe that what they see is true. For example, many teenagers are very involved in social media and with the lives of influencers and they believe that how the influen...

Peer Review #2

Hi, This week's reading Task included me having to read two other students' previous written blogs and give feedback. I learned a lot from this task in different ways. Reading other peoples blogs allowed me to notice the different things that would also help me improve on my blog for example being more clear and more detailed on different topics that I talk about to allow those reading to get a better understanding of the topic itself and my thoughts and ideas that I am trying to get across. I also learned that something as simple as structuring or laying my blogs out a bit better with paragraphs or paying more attention to my punctuation allows my writing to make more sense to others. I now understand that this task was very beneficial to both me and the person receiving the feedback this is because they are getting critiqued and can then make improvements in the future to better themselves and their writing and it benefits me because I can see what they did ...

Technological Evolution

Hi, Today I am going to be discussing my thoughts on the ideas that are addressed in this week's videos about technological evolution.  Firstly I will talk about how the recent Covid-19 pandemic has affected everyone and has disputed every sector of our economies. The increased automation of work mixed with the global recession has led many workers to lose their jobs and this trend is expected to continue according to the 'What will the future of jobs be like?' video. There is a big ongoing shift in the division of labor between humans, machines, and algorithms this might displace 85 million jobs worldwide in the next 5 years. This is also a good thing because as it states in the video that 97 million new roles that are adapted to the distribution of the new tasks might emerge. By 2025, organizations say they will train over 70% of their employees to ensure that they can smoothly transition into the 'Jobs of tomorrow' as stated in the video this includes:  1. DevOp...

Media Ethics

Hi, Today I am going to talk about how dark patterns trick you online. Firstly, for those who may not know what dark patterns are, here is an explanation: Dark patterns are features of interface design crafted to trick users into doing things they might not want to do, but which benefit the business in question.   There are many examples of dark patterns online but from the video ‘How dark patterns trick you online’ one of the examples that were mentioned that shocked me was deleting an amazon account. Amazon made it extremely awkward for a user to delete their amazon account and I’m sure this is to throw people off from deleting their account so even though they may not purchase things on this account it still benefits them as a company. From watching this video, I also found the information that UX specialist Harry Brignull categorizes these specific types of dark patterns as a roach motel. A roach motel is a design that makes it very easy to get into a situation but h...
